Our Work

Think Tank Initiative

The Think Tank Initiative is a multi-donor program dedicated to strengthening the capacity of independent policy research organizations in the developing world.

We were responsible for making significant enhancements to the site, creating a faceted, filtereable resource library, regional landing pages with curated content, and custom Google Maps implementations.

Joe's Table Café

Joe’s Table Café is a coffee shop that has a mission of creating meaningful employment opportunities for people with disabilities.

We were pleased to be a part of a communications team that worked to solidify their branding and greatly improve their website, while delivering the most bang for the buck possible.

We delivered a custom-built WordPress site while maintaining the aim to have everything updatable by the client.

The majority of our work is done for progressive organizations, but sometimes we like to do some agency work on cutting-edge projects. It keeps our skills sharp, and allows us to really learn the advanced techniques that are being used in modern web design.

The Pokemon responsive re-design was a massive year-long project, and we were brought in to offer our expertise in front-end development. We applied the new styles to the very complex admin section, and built out pages as needed from supplied designs.

We used a bunch of modern tech on this build: Django templating, git version control, SASS, CSS3, grunt.js, mustache.js (with handlebars.js), as well as lots of jquery, HTML and plain old CSS.

IBEW Local 213

IBEW Local 213 wanted a fresh look at their website, so they hired us. We came up with a completely new look and feel along with a new site architecture to make finding things easy for both members and contractors. We also integrated their website with their membership list database so that members could log in to the site, update their personal information and access the dispatch system.

BC Ferry and Marine Workers' Union

The BC Ferry and Marine Workers’ Union had been using a website that was set up and updated by volunteers. The site had a members section, and members were engaged, but the content of the site had grown to a point where it was unwieldy.

The new union leadership brought in Foley Design Studio and we were able to review the entire site, keep what was useful and ditch the rest. As a result, they now have a site that looks great, engages the membership, and places a priority on getting important information to members as well as informing the general public about the activities of the union.

We also implemented a secure members area where members can see information tailored for them. The members area also interacts with the unions membership database so that members can view and update their contact information and preference. We also set up an interactive online chat so that the union can engage their members in real time during scheduled Q&A sessions on the website.

After struggling for years with an out-dated Content Management System, CUPE brought us in to re-architect and re-engineer their entire site. We helped to manage and re-categorize thousands of pages of content, and set them up with a modern Drupal CMS so that their support staff could manage the majority of the postings and updates without the need to call on external resources.

This BC-based tech startup needed some help bridging the gap between the back-end coding and the product design team. We jumped at the chance as it allowed us to work on a team that was doing cutting edge work. This was one of the first web apps to be launched using jQuery Mobile, and our experience in developing and deploying that site enabled us to use cutting-edge technologies into our work for other clients.

IATSE Local 891

We were brought in by IATSE 891 to look at their entire communications apparatus, and then leave them with a communications plan that they could use as a starting point to better communicate with their member. We conducted in-person interviews with key stakeholders and used our experience in Union Communications to write a comprehensive plan with recommendations on everything from key messaging to how to integrate social media. We then did some work refining their visual identity and refined their logo while ensuring that their branding remained consistent.

Finally we created a new responsive front end architecture and design for their website, which their in-house team implemented.

We've always thought that the BC Union Label directory was a great project, but it deserved to be on the web. With ShopUnion.ca we got our chance to build and deploy this website that helps you find union-made goods and services in BC.

This project has earned the support of the labour community and it is rapidly growing a loyal and appreciative user base.
